I calculated who would be the NASCAR Cup Series champion over the last 50 years if any of the recent scoring systems would have been used and put the results into a large table.
As you can see here, with the good old 1975 system, Jeff Gordon would have been 7x champion, Kevin Harvick would have been 4x champion and Jimmie Johnson would have got two titles. With the current playoff system, only Bobby Labonte would have 4 championship titles, Yarborough, B Allison, Gant and Johnson would have 3, and all other stars including Gordon and Earnhardt would have 2 or less titles.
Kyle Petty would have been 1992 champion with the 2011 chase system, Dale Earnhardt Jr would have been 2013 champion with the 2014 four-round chase scoring system. Denny Hamlin would have been 2009 champion and Clint Bowyer would have been 2012 champion with the current playoff system!
